A classic Charlie and Lola picture book all about counting and sums, from Children’s Laureate Lauren Child. Now in a brilliant board book!
Perfectly funny and perfectly formed, this hilarious picture book sees top negotiator Lola take on numbers in everyday life and bend them to her endearing and unique will.
I have this little sister Lola. She is small and very funny.
Sometimes for a treat, Mum says, “We are going to the shops and you may choose one thing.”
“One thing to share?” says Lola.
I say, “One thing for you and one thing for me, which means two actual things.”

In this, her first charlie and Lola book for five yearsm the gloriously talented Lauren Child has let her beloved sibling creations loose on the language of counting and calculations...It's numeracy at its most joyful and positive, and a brilliant way to get young minds excited about maths
A beautifully illustrated story about everyday encounters with numbers
The famous brother and sister duo have been around for 15 years, but they're still fresh, original and quirky
Charming look at the mysteries of numbers
It is a wonderful introduction to maths for young children but 'One Thing' is more than an educational number book. The book recognises the natural way that children see numbers everywhere and is full of discoveries for an inquisitive mind.
She has converted this maths-hating writer into a fan of all things number. The child voices are perfectly pitched... and the illustrations are trademark Child
Lauren Child is one of the most admired and loved illustrator/authors of this generation ... This is a briliant book on learning numbers and what they actually mean in the real world ... another sure-fire winner
Charlie and Lola may be 15 years old, but the sibling favourites are still as fresh, funny and relevant as ever
A counting book in Lauren Child's inimitable style, brilliant for reading out loud.
Charlie and Lola make counting into a playful, free-flowing activity in this busy book that gallops through numbers from one to billions
A sure-fire hit
Charlie and Lola are going to the shops with their mummy. Lola asks for just one thing. The book takes you on a number journey. I counted everything on every page. The page with the giant clock is my favourite. My sister liked the page with the birds. I like numbers and I like this book, the pictures are very good and bright. I think my friends would like this book
Charlie and Lola assume central roles in an imaginative (and very funny) celebration of numbers
A great addition to your Lauren Child library
A must-buy for preschool and early elementary math collections, as well as for Charlie and Lola fans
An energetic and fun story ... Really clever combination of text and illustrations ... the brother and sister dynamic has universal appeal perfectly aimed at little minds
My favourite children's book of the year is Charlie and Lola: One Thing, by Lauren Child - it's brilliant
Lauren Child (with the help of Charlie and Lola) introduces math as a part of every busy day in this fresh, funny picture book.
